Friday @ Space Nightclub Sydney

Leadup:
Woolie booked me in for Verandah to celebrate her end of exams. The next day Shelly double booked me for Space. Shelly promised lots of chicks. I asked her to add an and Wuz as well to the list in case Woolie piked. Well guess what? Wuz couldn’t come so Woolie piked as well at the last minute. It was another night at Space.. gahhhh…

About Space :
See previous post. Here are some photos during peak hour:

rnb room peak hour
Main Rnb room. We are looking from the back of the room to the front.

Little Trance Room
From the DJ stage looking back at the Trance floor. There are about 6 people on the actual wooden floor. Everyone else is standing around on carpeted areas.

About Cookies and Cream:
Yet another “end of semester” party. This time they were giving out “cookies and cream flavoured ice cream” and kit kats to suck us in. Hell yeah! Cover charge $25 unless you are on guestlist and get in before 10:30.

Music:
Rnb in the big room. Trance/dance/house in the small room. Rnb DJ’s were good, and so were the trance/house DJ’s. Whenever the Rnb DJ played a song I hated, I would run to the House room and dance there.

Atmosphere: Tonight was an especially packed night as basically every uni student in Sydney has finished their exams now. Crowd was friendly throughout the night. The big rnb room had 3 small square podiums for anyone who wanted to flaunt their stuff, which was used quite often.

Things didn’t pick up until 11:00 where all these chicks started dancing in the middle of the floor. It got so packed in the small room so quickly that the big room was opened at 11:30, half an hour earlier than usual. Both rooms got packed very quickly.

The crowd again, were mostly asian teenies, with a lot of men. Throughout the night it was very busy and bustling which was good, but bad in that there were loys of guys and little dance floor real estate in the rnb room.

Oh and the ice cream! The ice cream giveaway was divine and made a good break to cool down with after some hot and sweaty clubbing.

My timeline

Guestlist woes:
When we got to the door, I was on the guestlist but an wasn’t. I thought Shelly would have submitted his name as well as mine. I had to cough up $25 for the moneyless an. It put a bad mood to the start as we could’ve gone to Verandah bar and not have to pay $25 as Woolie definitely put us on the guestlist there.

The reason you go to a nightclub that has a DJ and a dancefloor is so you can ..
Shelly invitied lots of people, with about 6 guys and 1 girl showing up. That sucked. One of the guys was Phillip. Phillip was dressed nicely and while talking to him seemed very friendly. However when we got inside, he wasn’t much a fan of dancing. At all. I gave him some tips and he wibble wobbled, but wasn’t really into it. We were sittng at the back of the rnb room at the time, and I urged him to come to the front, because the back area was all dark, desolate, with a noticable lack of girls. He didn’t want to head to the front, which was going off. Really now, who cares, lets just party! Space is all floor, barely any chairs.

It really breaks my heart whenever my enthusiasm (or perceived craziness) for dancing doesn’t rub off onto other people.

Ice cream:
Shelly organized the night and had to help with dishing out the ice cream. I even helped out a bit. It was nice after some good clubbing. Shame that the ice cream was being delivered on the bottom floor of the building instead of the dance floor top level. Everyone who walked by from outside in the cold questioned why we would serve ice cream in winter. People going out devoured it but were on their way home. My fingers got pretty sticky though.

Diggity:
My high school friend Diggity came along and he wanted to pick up girls
(Let me digress at this point to say that this is not a good way to guarantee a good night clubbing for you boys. The tip is to enjoy yourself) . He doesn’t go clubbing at all. Actually he couldn’t dance for his life but at least he went on the floor with me when nobody else did.

Note the nice empty floor of the small room. ~11pm.

Puppy love:
So me and Diggity are on the trance/house floor dancing it out later that night. There are already a group of girls dancing. Soon enough the short one approaches us and we make one biggish circle. The DJ plays a song I like and I shout “woa!”. I hear a “woa!” in return. It was blondie. The tall blonde eyes me and I eye her back. We both kept woaing like it was the finals of the “woaing” championship. It was on. She danced, I yawned. I danced, she had none of it. This kept going. It was a kinda funny experience in a surreal way. We didn’t exhange words at all, just a lot of yelping like puppies to the music beat. No photos guys, but she was hot. She probably thought I spoke no engrish.

Have you ever seen 2 guys die on stage?
I did. and so did a few hundred other people. It was mid-session entertainment time. A special guest the MC announces. Then the MC says “Introducing… D… M… ” .. at this point in time I’m thinking oh my god they’re bringing out DMX!… “… S” or something. These two white guys from new zealand come out. The crowd is absolutely silent. No cheering, no nothing. I was laughing. The two guys note this and try to get the crowd to give them a proper welcome and try to pump them out. Nobody raises their voices. Oh how embarrasing. I left the room after that.

That’s what friends are for:
Around 1am, perth already had two cold dance approaches from girls on the floor but they weren’t his type. an got hungry and left us around midnight to eat. (an isn’t into the modern rnb nor hanging with girls who have boyfriends) In the end Diggity wanted to get out of space, as he got bored. He even offered to pay me and an’s entry fee to go to another club. It was a bit too late to head to UN or Verandah, so we left 1:30. Already !! Walking outside, there was still a massive line to get in. Almost all were men. The poor suckers, must be their first time too.

Post-Mortem: Us boys made a pact to never visit Space again unless single hot chicks accompany us. Shame we didn’t make this pact earlier.

Me Diggity an

Summary:
A safe night to go if you wanted to dance away to rnb and or mix it up trance with asians in a place without pills. Trance floor was unexpectedly busy and enjoyable. Not fun though if you visited to pick up, to not dance or to hang with women who aren’t single.
