What an acronym!! The University of New South Wales  Business Society ‘Be Sexy’ dance!!! Try saying that 10 times. My boss has been encouraging me to use my annual leave, so I took a Friday off and went with a friend on Thursday night!

About Home Bar

Address: 101 Cockle Bay Wharf, Darling Harbour (opposite the IMAX theatre)
Website: http://www.homesydney.com
Inside: Entry is via their side door. It is not accessible via the front bar entrance. When you enter, there is a little foyer with two openings. On the right opening is entry to the main room. The other is a set of stairs that lead up.

The main room is quite large both in terms of dimensions and height. You enter from the back where the bar resides. At the back is a technician (yes, a light and possibly sound technician) The DJ is at the front. The huge Shiny sublime logo hangs as a modern day chandelier. Overlooking the main room on 3 sides is a balcony setup where people are peering down Upstairs is another bar and the balcony peering over downstairs. On Level 2 there is a small room playing trance music. another set of stairs around the bar leads you to level 3 –  set of stairs and a tiny room resides where slow house plays. It’s not crowded and it’s quite good music, but it was dead as throughout the night.

About BSXC
A once off event, possibly once a year for the UNSW BSOC.
Entry: $10 (1st round), $15 (2nd round), $20 (3rd round). $25 at the door. A relative bargain.
Crowd: Dominantly Asian. It was UNSW, after all.
Atmosphere: Main room – very good. Use of MC had the crowd continually going. Trance room – Small, but there was no pretentiousness when dancing here. House room upstairs – Dead most of the night, but for me, seemed to be the best room, I liked the beats, and I loved the freedom to dance, compared to downstairs were it was packed to the rafters.

Entertainment: I caught a glimpse of some dancers at the front. Don’t know if there were any other forms of entertainment. It was a good way to break things up. No podium dancers at this place, nor podiums to speak of.

Easter Thursday @ cargo bar

Going for a dance at cargo bar –

As usual it was the same crowd, and the same music. Nothing wrong with that – it’s a nice place to go!
Crowd: 20s
Attire: Smart Casual. Casual not allowed. Hats allowed.
Atmosphere: Busy, loud, bustling.

Review
Music was good. Usual house classics, and the occasional mixed up rnb song. Being the night of the start of the long weekend, it was pretty busy.

Soon C came along with a dancing buddy and all 5 or 6 of us had a little circle and danced it off. Everyone drools again at C’s dancing. A true dancing gem.

One of my friends used his dancing to get going with a girl, and I managed to find another girl to dance off with. We agreed to take her to an RnB club in sydney but she didn’t know where the good ones were. Lucky she met me! We’ll be hitting up some random rnb club soon.

Coda
Left at closing time 3am. Always a nice place to go!

Thursday @ Candy’s Apartment

On February 26, 2009, in Candys Apartment, House, by J T

After being kicked out of Hugo’s (she tried to steal a huge 30cm candle), and being refused entry to sapphire (she didnt have ID), we snuck into Candy’s…

Candy’s Apartment // Thursdays
Address: 22 Bayswater Road Kings Cross  / http://www.candys.com.au
Cover: $10
Music: House
Crowd: Touristy / Euro

Timeline

Getting in
I really thought we would be refused entry as she didn’t have ID. She just walked by security as they looked at my ID! We walked down, then she shoved me through past the counter and we basically got in for free! Nuts

Atmosphere/ Music
We got in 11pm it wasn’t too packed.. lots of room to dance around, but enough anyway. The music was housey but not commercial. Trash House? It was a good balance of men:women. At around midnight the floor was pretty much packed out. Very good, and the music was better (more electro) by this time.

She pulls down a wall on herself
She stood up on the front stage where the DJ was playing. I came up after and we dance. She went up to the DJ booth and held onto the wall. She leaned back and the wall slowly moved backwards, and started to fall!!! She fell down, and the entire side of the DJ booth wall fell on top of her!! Jesus christ what a mess. Luckily, it was a foldable woodem wall, and the wall had folded a bit, so that she was lying in a folded wall gap. You just had to be there. The DJ started applausing my friend for her efforts.

‘We are so getting kicked out’ I think… but instead of being kicked out, people are helping her up, and let us dance again!! Truly bizarre.

Coda
Left at midnight cos I work on Fridays. Shouldve stayed longer.
