Flirt @ Slide Bar

On January 16, 2009, in Hip Hop, RnB, Slide Bar, by J T

A bit tired of Havana, so I sent in a guestlist for Slide Bar and me and Josh went along to check out their opening night.

About Slide Bar
Location: 41 Oxford St, Darlinghurst, Sydney
Website: http://www.slide.com.au
Inside: On entering the venue there is a main rectangular floor area, a third of it occupied by a bar. This left room for about 50 standing people. There is also an *awesome* light up elevated dancefloor with multiple square tiles. Above the bar is an overhead 2nd level lounge area. Huge mirrors adorn the walls to check yourself out on the light up dance floor.

Timeline
VIP entry.. pah
We lined up about 10.45pm, and waited about 30 minutes until we got in. A guy gave us ‘VIP Tickets’ for discount entry before 10.30pm. What stupidity.

Got to the door girls, and mentioned my guestlist. They hadn’t printed it out, even though it had been confirmed via email earlier in the day. Boo! Luckily they were reasonable and let me create a ‘tally’ checklist. I told them how many people I had under my name, and they would just make a tally of how many came to the door under my name.

Music and atmosphere
I wasn’t feeling it! Maybe it was the tiredness. Maybe it was the men around us. Maybe it was the group of awesome hip hop dancers taking the thunder on the multicoloured dancefloor. Maybe it was the lack of sleep. Maybe it was the DJ/DJ’s playing such dodgy tracks to not be able to dance to – he played things too long and didnt mix it up that much to pump up the temperature.

Maybe it was the 18 or 19 year old crowd present. I can’t believe I’m still at it at the age of 24.

Coda

I wasn’t dancing to my peak, I wasn’t in the mood. I don’t know why. Neither was Josh. In hindsight I think I was too paranoid about picking up girls instead of just enjoying myself in the music, as I usually do. Nah. It was the freaking crap music. We left before midnight. Not recommended, but the venue’s dancefloor is worth a look.

PS we came back for a quick 15 minutes at around 12.30am and the music choice was better (more to the rnb/dance), but the atmosphere was still weary.
