Bamboo @ Martin Place Bar

On February 2, 2008, in Hip Hop, Martin Place Bar, RnB, by J T

I know. I swore on my life i would not return here. Wuz wanted to go though.. and hanh had jon had given me a lift to the city. I really wanted to check out Aurora Hotel that night.

Jason the solo bum dancer was there .. head fresh shaven.. and shirt soaked in his sweat. Con was there and followed Woolie around the place as normal.

I had a fancy blonde wig on. Steven joined me in dancing most of the night.

We got in 1am, spent $20 on cover charge and left at 3am.

Music was good. Crowd was okay. Venue is still too small for my liking.

I still don’t recommend this place. It charges too much. You would be better to go to Scary Canary – same size and it’s $15.

Jes.. i need more info. are u more of a dancer or drinker or talker or person to pick up random hookups?

Assuming you’re into house music I would check out famous@ home.. pretty safe on sat… but if its too expensive for you check out some of the clubs in kings cross.. there is a wide selection of clubs to pick from.

there is a link on on my blogroll to a guide on kings cross. check that out.

also send a message on myspace if you need more assistance!!

i love MOS music and I love to talk to people, especially someone around my age. I will definitely goto Famous and check it out. Do I need to bring anything, maybe a camera?

and is there any places in Sydney that are not safe to go clubbing? since I heard that there’s plenty of drugs going on in Kings Cross…

  4. James says:

Definitely bring a camera, but keep an eye on it at all times. I’ve lost 2 cameras in the past year while clubbing.

you sound like someone who likes to sing loudly along to songs. I can visualize it right now, lol. I would say check out Favela as well since the volume of the overall place is not as loud, so you can at least converse *and* dance at the same time without a screaming match ensuing. The music is non-commercial but house though. You would like it. (Sweet). Also Dragonfly and Tank are great too… good beats to dance too. Dragonfly is only one room though but a ton of younguns. I read that Kink has returned at the Oxford art factory this year, but I have yet to check out the new venue…

Avoid Shark Bar at all costs, haha. Close seconds are Pavillion and V Bar. Space is also crap.

Let me know soon what you get upto and how it went for you.

    Kelly !
So glad at least one person out there is reading my reviews! 🙂

rnb, hip hop.. bamboo is perfect for you. If you have had good times there, I certainly would not suggest you go anywhere else, as I don’t think its a bad place at all, but for some reason.. I only have had average experiences there.

I read that 2 or 3 weeks ago in 3DWorld Magazine that ‘XO’ from Hunter Bar have merged with ‘Perfect’, as well as with some Salsa thing. I haven’t checked that out yet, so I can’t recommend it, but in terms of music, and if its true, then it would cater for all your musical needs and would be a more spacious and attractive option than that of Bamboo.

The only reason I don’t like Bamboo is just there is so many people – there is no room for me to dance. Sometimes it can get a bit too asian for me.. weird I know!

I’ve had some thought since that last comment – I would suggest RNB superclub on Friday nights, and if you are heading out this saturday, go to the Arthouse for an alternative rnb fix. A new monthly event is opening called ‘Fame’.. and considering the promotion they’re doing for it… it will probably be very wise to check it out. I’m going to verandah this saturday for a birthday, and I think it will be an okay night there.

    Hey,

I am going to Bamboo tonight. I like Lady gaga’s music. Hopefully they will play some of her songs.

I hate Hunter Bar, charge too much entry fee. Plus, I can’t dance there, the music seems only for people who took drugs.

    Just my personnal opion.

  10. James says:

    Hey Mia,
Hunter Bar! Thanks for your quick thoughts on that – I have a friend there who actually who actually was there last night – its trance / hardstyle music there now (the former hip hop event XO has since moved to St James) and she took drugs, so I would say.. better luck next time 🙂

If you’re into pop.. then you’ll like Bamboo.. they’ll definitely play a Lady Gaga song or two (I personally walk off the dance floor everytime a lady gaga song comes up, or that other song ‘kiss me through the phone’, yuck!). Verandah bar around the corner will also cater for your needs if the line is too long at old Bamboo.

Here’s hoping tonight is a good night for you!
