The final stop, after visiting Northies and Sting Bar. This is where all the action is supposed to be in the Shire – so here we go!

Occurrence: Every Saturday. Fridays are also open under a different event name.
Outside Line: About 20 people in front of us with a waiting time of about 10 minutes.
Dress Code: No hats are allowed in side. Anything goes here, and most are locals dressed up in casual gear – shirts, jeans etc. I met a guy inside with long dreadlocks so there you go. Girls wear whatever makes them feel sexy. I particularly very overdressed just wearing collared shirts, let alone with ties, dress shoes and blazers to match, but better than underdressed, right? 🙂
Door Policy: “How many drinks have you had?” – The standard sobriety question. At this place, the guy asking is very particular – if you look even slightly drunk then you’re denied entry. Speaking to another patron of the club, she did say it was a 50/50 chance of getting in, whether you had been drinking or not. It’s a massive clamp down here, as there probably were some incidents in the past.
Entry Fee / Cover Charge: $10 for the entire night. Let it be noted that there are no stamps given on your way in – That’s fine, but guess this – there are no stamps on your way out either! Huh? Yes.. why would they do such a thing? I was wondering the same thing – it turns out that every time you exit and want to re-enter the club, you need to pay an additional $10. Shameful! Does it keep the patrons inside though? Sure does.
Guestlist: None can be submitted. These guys don’t have a contactable email address that I could find.
Inside: The Fusion Nite Spot is situated on the upper level of its residence. Walk up the stairs and enter via the Southern side to face the middle of the room. On the SW corner to your left is a small bar to service the small lounge area to hold a small party of 20-30 people. Smoking area to hold about a handful of people along here as well. During busy times, there is actually a queue to go to the outside smoking area – it’s that small – and since people are not encouraged to leave.. you have to wait it out. On the NW corner is a second bar, to line up for 5 or 6 people. On the North wall is the DJ area, which is defined by the platform the DJ set stands on. On either side are lounges. To the NE corner are two pool tables and more tables and stools. This general area is a standing / drinking area. The SE/E corners is where the main bar and bathrooms area. There are also lockers and lounges. Right smack in the middle of it all is the dance floor – In the middle of this is a very thick mirrored column about 2×2 metres in the middle. Around the column is a tier of elevated podium dance area about 1 person wide, surrounded by the main dance area about 6×6 metres. This area is bordered by tables and metal poles, so the areas are pretty well defined, but there is nothing stopping you from dancing in other places around this central dance area. No drinks are allowed on the dance floor here, similar to Sting Bar’s policy. Cronulla must be the only place that I have seen purposely created signs that disallow patron to bring beverages to the dance floor.
Cloak Room: None, but I did spot some women using the lockers. I didn’t ask staff about the lockers so I am not sure if they are open to the public, but I would be guessing so, but I have no idea how the mechanism works.
Bar Prices / Line: The bar on the Eastern side is most busy, wich people constantly there placing orders. You would wait about 5 minutes for your order, which isn’t bad. If even that is too long, just hop on to the other side where the two other bars are usually less crowded and you will hopefully get an order faster here. Throughout the night there are also time-outs of 5-10 minutes, where alcohol is not allowed to be served to patrons.
Eviction Count: I saw someone nearly got kicked out, but after lots of negotiation managed to stay inside I believe.
DJs: Anthony K / Louise Love (sax)
Music Style: In the main proceedings of the night mostly a mix of Contemporary Commercial RnB and known commercial House track mash ups was being played here. Later nearing the end of the night it was more of a Hip Hop style of music, typical of a closing night of an RnB club – they even played Sexual Healing! It’s been a while since I’ve heard the clubs play that near the end of the night. This was definitely a club that fostered romance.
Crowd & Ratio: Like the other places around here, the entire crowd is pretty much local. Local Caucasian Australians are dominant here but there are also a tiny handful of islanders and Asians. Most of the guys are beefcakes though. Women are generally pretty well dressed, and looking pretty fine. Everyone here is pretty young – ages range from teenagers to 20s… with a few late 20s early 30s too. Also some of the crowd that we saw at Sting Bar also made the trip down here later in the night. The ratio was quite okay here. It was probably on par or just slightly more guys for most of the night. Also there were plenty of people here so your options weren’t that limited.
Entertainment: No MCs or extra entertainment
Atmosphere: Pretty much all the crowded dancing action was here. Most of the people making out in the club were in the middle as well. Throughout the night it was constantly packed, so it was a bitch trying to dance well here – one can only manage to secure their own little spot and bob up and down. You actually had better luck going up on the central podium area as at least you only had two people next to you on either side, instead of being surrounded by people. Outside the immediate dance floor there was generally space for which daring people could dance here at the observation of the drinking crowd. The eastern side was quite busy with an extreme abundance of men particularly in the pool table corners. The other side was more balanced, but there were fewer people than that of the side with the main bar.
The general mood in the middle is party party with the darker lit atmosphere, lights and smoke machines helping out with the club feel tonight. The crowd seemingly are enjoying most of the songs being played tonight. Generally here the crowd is either quite friendly or tolerant, thought there were some aggravated blokes towards Marty at one time. I can’t blame them after he pretty much danced nearby near their little private space, right next to the dance floor. Besides that people were nice here. Some of the ladies were 50/50 friendly and cold.

Checking out the nightlife in Cronulla – we’ve just left Northies and our second stop is Sting Bar – here we go!

Dress Code / Door Policy: Hats were fine here tonight. It’s a casual affair here as well – lots of guys in their t-shirts/sneaks/jeans combo and girls in whatever simple dress they can find. 3/4 length shorts are allowed here too, so its easy going, but you do want to look reasonably okay here because of the crowd. Tonight we have our blazers and best clothes on .. just in case.
Entry Fee / Cover Charge: Free all night.
Inside: Walk inside to enter the Southern end bar and lounge side of the club. Bar in the middle of the venue with lounges and chairs/stools surrounding South, West and East sides of the bar. West side is more elevated with sets of lounges to hold about 3 or 4 separate small gatherings. On the North end is the dancefloor/DJ end. The dancefloor itself holds perhaps 10 or so people, but there are surrounding carpeted areas and elevated seating areas you could dance upon if need be. The total area now thus holding now 30-40 people. DJ located on the Western wall.
Cloak Room: No cloak room services
Bar Prices / Line: I did purchase but can’t remember the price. There were two staff members working the bar – there was only one order in front of us so the wait wasn’t long.

Music Style: It was a bit of a mixed bag here for our time here. You’re dancing to RnB then it switches to House, which is fair enough, but then the next song is ‘Breathe’ by the prodigy – it’s a huge change within 2 songs. There isn’t much mixing going on, with the majority of the song being played each time.
Crowd & Ratio: The first impression upon walking into here is that it is definitely an older crowd tonight. Older being late 20s, 30s and probably some people in their 40s. Everyone else here is of Caucasian descent and it looks like most are probably locals here. The ratio is pretty even here throughout the night.
Entertainment: No extra entertainment.
Atmosphere: On the Southern lounge area it was okay-ish – there are groups mingling but only among themselves. The crowd didn’t seem to pick up enough to foster more intergroup mingling. The entire place is also pretty well lit, so there’s no seedy atmosphere. It is another bar-focused place, but the dance floor is at least of reasonable size. No drinks allowed on the dance floor, so at least there is no spillage. It kind of felt sterile and unusually clean – patrons who wouldnt dance would stand about 2 or 3 metres away watching. Kind of weird when they stand and stare. Throughout the night there would be no more than 6 or 7 people at one time dancing.. with most times being empty. Pretty ugly sight.

Dress Code / Door Policy: Hats were definitely allowed – trucker hats, fedora hats, whatever hat you have. It actually was kind of a bit scary when you see some really beefed up guys with trucker hats on. A large majority of the guys here wore t-shirts and jeans.. all the guys here are beefcakes so I would suppose every opportunity is needed to show off their guns. Very casual here. Girls were pretty casual as well – but there also were so many girls that there were a good number wearing one pieces as well.
Entry Fee / Cover Charge: Free all night.
Inside: Walk inside to a foyer area and walk into the corner bar area. From here you can go right to through to the main room for about 500-800 people – a sprawling area of tables and stool chairs for drinking. A bar to the left to supply for everyone here. Lounges dot the far north wall. There is a dancefloor in the north-east corner which occupies about 15-20% of the floor space here, but it is a bit small – to hold 40-50 people. Podium for 5-6 people and the DJ booth is here as well. On the other end of the venue to the South West corner is a separate room where classic/rock music is being played. The capacity of the floor is about the same as the main room, but there are considerably less surrounding tables and chairs. It’s not a large room by comparison.

Bar Prices / Line: No drinking tonight, but there was only one order in front of us when we lined up to request some water.

Music Style: Hard to describe – a disco kind of feel type house music, where a saxophone player goes along with the beat. It’s not something you could really shuffle to. It’s a certain type of dance music but a bit laid back, so no party tunes were being belted out here. Almost reminds me of a Cargo Bar / Bungalow 8 style being replicated here.
Crowd & Ratio: Pretty much you can tell you’re in Cronulla, or somewhere outside of the city. Everyone is Caucasian Australian and the fair majority are locals to the area. Age wise varied but the majority in the main room are young from 18 to low 20’s. There are also a few people mid and late 20’s and some early 30’s represented. In the smaller south-west room the average age is probably a decade older than the main room. The ratio was pretty even – and may I say I have never seen so many hotties in one concentrated area in my bar/club life. That’s me though.
Entertainment: Main room has a saxophone player to play along with the tunes.
Atmosphere: Very busy and bustling in all areas. Dancefloor wise you could have your own little space to break out into dance, but I suppose due to the music you couldn’t really go as hard out as in a typical club. This venue is more focused on the drinking aspect rather than the dance aspect. On the dancefloor itself it was a bit weird, as the majority of the nearby people are watching you, and they are all seated pretty close. Kind of awkward when they sit and stare.

A popular place for the locals to have a drink by the beach, which is fair, but not many are fans of the dance.
It was either the Hollywood event tonight or the Korean night at V Bar nearby, both being grand opening nights, but this venue looked like it had more promise, so off we went – here we go!

I had clean white sneakers and was okay to go in. (We didn’t dog our friend, he wanted to go home anyway, so it was alright)

Inside: Walk into a foyer area for 20 people. The floor here is in an L shape configuration. On the left and continuing on down the length of the venue are multiple bars and lounges for probably 100 people. On the right is the dancefloor area to hold 50 or so people, also surrounded by lounges/chairs. Walk upstairs on the right to enter the proper dancefloor for 200-300 people. The floor is in the middle, DJ on a podium at the front, and bar on the far right. There are various lounges and chairs spotted along the walls of the room.
Cloak Room: $5 per item. If it’s your first time, the cloak room can be found at the back of the upper level. As you walk upstairs, turn left instead of right to get there.

DJs: Unknown tonight
Music Style: Rnb, House Mashup upstairs with mixing of songs done with the best bits only. There was also some American Rap. Downstairs was mostly songs played in their entirety – old school and house music.
Crowd & Ratio: About half the crowd here were Asian Australian. The rest were comprised of Caucasian patrons who were drinking earlier in the night here at World Square Pub, or Indians. Pretty Mixed. Age wise, a friend described it as “full of people who graduated from university already”. I would agree the crowd here was lacking in teenagers. It’s good for us older folk 🙂
Entertainment: MC to keep things going. Also there is an all-sexes podium near the front, while the sole podium at the back appeared to be female only, as I got quickly kicked off when I went up for some starjumping action. There are also podium dancers in white lingerie doing their thing throughout the show, which attracts the attention of everyone of course.
Atmosphere: Upstairs is a pretty dark area. With the spotlights providing the only form of lighting. This is where the dancing happens, and where everyone is most of the night. Most of the night the temperature kept okay, but at around 1:30AM it became a little unbearable and we retired downstairs. Downstairs, there is more prevalent ambient lighting and less people – probably at most 10 at a time. It was “dead” most of the night downstairs.

I just finished Stereosonic, still upset I wasn’t able to wear my bubble wrap suit, as it got rejected at the gates. So where is a place that could let this outfit in? Outside Line: There was no line at this time when we arrived, but we had to wait about 5-10 minutes before we could get in, either due to being it busy inside or to keep up appearances outside to anyone walking by – it was the latter.
Dress Code / Door Policy: Today was a beach theme, we saw people walk outside with their thongs on, even though it was advised not to. Also people were allowed to wear singlets inside as well as hats.. anything beachy. Half the guys here wore casual and the other something dressy. Girls mostly wore dresses here, unless they were here for the podium dance off .
Entry Fee / Cover Charge: $25 Full Entry. $20 guestlist before midnight. Free before 10:30PM if you are on the guestlist.

Inside: After paying entry, you can visit the gambling room, which served no other purpose, or head straight into the main area where you are frisked before entering. Walk into the main dancefloor area separated into two distinct areas by columns and central podium – A dancefloor half that is kind of narrow .. about 10 people wide while spanning the length of the entrance to the bar, which would be about 40 people, and a second half of primarily people dancing, standing around, and others walking through. Walk to the back half of the club where a bar on the right serves the entire venue, and on the left are lounges to hold approximately 3-5 birthdays for 10 people. At the far back is the “Verandah” itself, a 2 person by 40-50 person smoking area where you only have standing room.
Cloak Room: $5 per item. Cloak area is located on your right as you walk inside the the main venue.
Bar Prices / Line: I didn’t drink tonight. Last month though, 5 Malibu + Lemonades and a Smirnoff double black would cost $52.
DJs: Unknown tonight.
Music Style: Primarily RnB with house and hip hop mash up later in the night. No complaints here, as I was only here for a short time and didn’t experience repeated songs.
Crowd & Ratio: Tonight the crowd is majorly Asian Aussie. There are a handful of people from stereosonic.
Entertainment: Theres a bouncing inflatable dice ball being thrown around the venue. Fun times, but eventually is taken down by security at around 2:00AM. There are also podium dancers, both guys and girls, which is good.
Atmosphere: On the dancefloor itself it was pretty busy and vibing. Out in the back half of the venue where the bar is, it is quite busy, but people here are more or less standing around and talking, and not dancing. The back area here is not suited for dancing as there isn’t much dancefloor space. Some of the lounges, chairs, etc are free for people to sit on. The outside narrow area for smoking is very busy/packed.

I’ve always walked by this event and wondered how it was inside, and why there was always a line outside. Did the Establishment really hold an event this good? Tonight is the night to find out. Too lazy to submit a guestlist (there are no easy instructions to do so) so I just kept the night free, brought some friends and rocked up to see how it was like. Here we go!

Assessment Time: 11:30PM-01:30AM and 02:30AM-03:00AM. I spent one hour in between to visit Brooklyn Hotel and Jackson’s on George.

Outside Line: The line appeared to be pretty long. Maybe 20-30 deep. Then when you think about it, it wasn’t that long of a wait. We waited about 15 minutes before we were let in. The line moved faster than we are used to at the Asian events.
Dress Code / Door Policy: You pretty much have to dress nicely to get in, or at least fit in here. Pretty much all the guys here have collared shirts, and many have vests and ties to match. Girls equally are dressed immaculately.
Entry Fee / Cover Charge: 2 for 1 entry before 10PM, if you printed out their flyer or had a promotional card for this month. Otherwise it was $15 for the entire night. I was expecting to pay at least $20 but was pleasantly surprised to see $15 for non-guestlist pricing. I wonder how much it was to be on the guestlist..
Guestlist: These need to be submitted via the promoter website, or you can contact on the facebook page.
Inside: The entrance of the venue is more of a chillout area where lounges to the left and right hold 30 each. The entire venue is a long, long room, with a long, long bar to match most of the length of it. The bar eats up about half the space here in the main room. People will need to stand around on the left hand side to mingle with some room to dance. The left side of the bar area could hold 100 people or so. On the far end of the bar, the DJ is located not on the right hand side, but on the left hand side near the window, which was surprising. The immediate dance area next to the DJ can hold another 100 or so people.
Cloak Room: The cloak room was available but surprisingly all I saw was an empty rack of coathangers – I don’t think not even one soul used the cloak room that night.
Bar Prices / Line: Didn’t drink tonight, but the line up for a drink was very short, and half the time the bartenders are looking around looking for someone to serve.
DJs: The entire time we were here, DJ Def Rok was playing, but other DJ’s listed on the site include G-Wizard, Lilo, Eko and Troy T – they could have been playing earlier. The obvious benefit of having one DJ for the majority of the night is that there are no repeated songs!
Music Style: As stated, no repeated songs. RnB is the primary choice tonight, and its a good selection, always keeping the crowd up and about. The style of RnB wasn’t all American African based RnB, there was a very strong latin fused theme going on tonight regarding the songs being played here tonight. Think of Daddy Yankee, Pitbull, Shakira… there was a lot more of this ‘summery’ style of RnB being played. There was also the occasional house mashup as well. DJ mixed well, no complaints.
Entertainment: No extra entertainment.
Crowd & ratio: A good even mix of guys and girls here. Mostly young 18-low 20’s. Nothing to complain about .. there might have actually been more women here than men when i think about it. Dominantly a wog euro crowd from locally around here. The rest are Aussie, with a very small minority of Asians and what not. Also this is the first warm weekend after the previous washouts, and on top of this its the end of semester for uni students and the end of year 12 for all the others – its a big one.
Atmosphere: I’ll leave this in the words of M who was with me: ‘Although Establishment is quite a spacious bar, the impractical layout inside drastically inhibits mobility. The enormous bar in the centre of everything means all traffic is funneled into two streams moving around the bar. The problem with this is that people do not co-ordinate their movements collectively. So you have people who are trying to move to the back obstructing the people who are trying to access the main bar at the front and those who are trying to leave moving in the opposite direction; the people queued at the bar stretch perpendicularly across the walkway obstructing people moving in any direction; and the people dancing occupy every other remaining space. To make things worse, long tables and chairs are lined along the centre of the walkways, constricting the already negligible traffic flow even further, as the people seated at these tables do not move at all until their bottles are empty. After a frustrating crawl through the crowd at the bar, and another crowd at the DJ stand, we finally find some reasonably unoccupied space at the back in the outdoor lounge area. The music is perfect with fresh tracks and the DJ is mixing it together well. Most of the people around the DJ stand are dancing and having a good time and unafraid to enjoy themselves.’ I would agree with the thoroughfare issue – it’s a very busy area along the side; the majority of people were on the pretty packed dancefloor. Atmosphere is also very vibrant amongst the patrons while not overheating thanks to the high ceiling. I liked it.

Major fail tonight as I was wearing no collared shirt and just sneakers. Got some promoter cards to go to Soho for the new event tonight, alright so here we go!

Dress Code / Door Policy: Clean sneakers and t-shirts are ok. At the door it was 3 of us guys and 1 girl. The door bitch told us straight out we needed more girls in our group at this time, which was fair, but the way in which she said it was with such attitude, it didn’t make me happy or sympathetic to the cause. We got in anyways after her question of ‘So do you want to go in or not??’. Oh such attitude (!!), but that’s a door bitch for you. I’m surprised we were not given the guestlist treatment excuse. They do try to encourage more women to come here.
Entry Fee / Cover Charge: $20 for all persons all night. Promoters on a nearby corner are giving out discount cards which gave guys $15 entry and women free entry. These promoters specifically were only giving out the cards to women on the street and we had to interrupt one of the guys chatting up a girl to ask for cards.
Guestlist: Guestlists can be sorted out through the websites listed above.
Inside: Walk through the hallway to enter the main bar on the ground level, where lounges are on the left and right. Keep walking through to the main dancefloor to hold about 100-200 people. Elevated dance podium at the back of the room. DJ at the front, some lounges along the far end walls and behind the DJ. Go back and upstairs to the second main dancefloor with a smaller floor for about 30-40 people and bar in the same area. In surrounding rooms are other reserved rooms for parties and various lounges to chill out. Also a smoking area upstairs.
Cloak Room: I couldn’t find one. Assumed non-existent.
Bar Prices / Line: Didn’t drink tonight. The lines were very short – you could order right away or at max wait for 1 or 2 orders.
DJs: Main Ground Level Room: Bingo Players (Netherlands), Jaxx da Fishworks (Japan), Allep Oop, Oakes n Lennox, Fat Cue DJs. Upper Level Room: Rogers Room, Here’s Trouble, Bangers n Mash, Kristiano
Music Style: Main Room appeared to be house, electro while I was there. I had Jaxx da Fishworks on set here playing down here, and he mixed songs well and keep the beat going. I was really able to shuffle and dance around like a mad man here. Upstairs was more top 40 and pop. Lady Gaga and things like that were being played. Difficult to dance to, and not only that, the DJ during this time often slowed down or increased the tempo of the song currently being played for about 5 or 10 seconds before going in to match the tempo of the next song. This was absolutely a show stopper everytime this happened. Even though I am not a DJ, I am sure there are better ways for a DJ to transition into the next song being played without killing the rhythm. This was pretty much why I was downstairs most of the night.
Crowd: Dominantly caucasian. Younger crowd of teenagers and low 20’s. There are a handful of Asians as well – appeared to be a mix of local and international students. Crowd can be friendly, but certainly not cold I suppose. There were more guys than girls in here tonight. Probably 65:35 ratio
Entertainment: No extra entertainment.
Atmosphere: Both rooms on the dancefloor everyone is dancing happily away, and was always busy until around 2AM when people started to leave. Upstairs, the dancefloor was very sticky due to spilled drinks / lack of cleaning up, so difficult to dance well to. Also both rooms had a dark atmosphere with minimal lighting. In the chillout rooms/areas there were plenty of seats to go around – so the club wasn’t at capacity.. but these were just chillout rooms – we shouldn’t go clubbing just for the opportunity to relax all night.
