No real occasion but to just have our fix of clubbing this week.. friends choice – Home Nightclub. Wasn’t too keen as the last time proved only to be very mediocre.. hoping tonight is better  – here we go!

Homemade Saturdays @ Home Nightclub Sydney
Assessment Time
: 11:30pm – 1:45am
Website: http://www.homesydney.com
Address: Cockle Bay Wharf
Dress Code: Casual ok. I wore a t-shirt, jeans and dress shoes.
Entry Fee / Cover Charge: Something ridiculous like $25 I think. No thumbprint scanners tonight.
Guestlist: Did not submit one, but visit the website to submit a guestlist.
Inside: See video. Basically one big room, 3 other dance rooms and a chill out room. Chill out room is not featured in the walkthrough video.
Cloak Room: $3 or $4 I think. Memory bad.  Cloak room is not advertised, but is it at the end of the main room bar, right next to the speakers.
DJ: Same DJ as last time here on a Satuday. Don’t know his name but he’s bald, and hates guys dancing up on the front podium.
Music: Electro/Commercial house in main room, old school rnb upstairs. See video.
Crowd: Mixed. Even mix of asian, caucasian, black, white, whatever.
Atmosphere: Very good and vibing tonight. Packed for a change. It was pissing down raining outside, so there might be a correlation there.
Entertainment: Front podium dancers and MC to keep it going.

We had been in the guestlist line for about 30 minutes at the time I took this video. Meanwhile, the normal line ($5 extra) was a measly 20 people deep. After 10 more minutes of waiting, me and the guys left. C stayed in line to get in 30 minutes later, for a total of 1 hour waiting. She said she had an awesome time there, and that it was pretty packed. Of course it was packed, look how many asians there were in line!

Coda: Ditching the line for another club
So where did we go? We went onto Bligh Bar… I honestly wasn’t keen to come to Bligh Bar, but it was a friend of a friend who was organising it. When I met the friend of a friend, I recognized him! He was the same promoter for the Fridays @ Bar Europa (I think I gave it an ok review….) Here we go!

Klassic Nights @ Bligh Bar
Assessment Time: 12:30am – 1:30am
Address:  2a Bligh St, Sydney
Website: http://www.klassicnights.com
Dress Code: Casual ok. I wore a fedora hat, jeans, collared shirt, dress shoes.
Entry Fee/ Cover Charge: I think we paid $15
Inside: One main room, sectioned off by a hinese pretzel looking wall. Bar occupies an entire corner of floorspace. Tables and chairs everywhere else.
Crowd: Asian, young to mid 20s.
Music: Modern RNB

Atmosphere: Felt a little empty, could have been better. Actually it was shithouse. Think of Pavillion Hotel on a bad night. People sitting around the floor. At peak time, all 20 or so of us were dancing on the small floor.  There wasn’t much promotion that I noticed for this event, but the dance floor was small enough to have a vibe going. The last time I was here, urban agent held a Friday Night here back in December 2008 – they did a pretty ok job (I didn’t write an entry for it but I was dressed in a Santa Suit, feeding people chocolate). Tonight was worse. However we had paid our entry, and so we just danced it off. The only benefit of a dead club though, was that there was no waiting at the bar – Hooray!

In Melbourne for the weekend, and we check out Chasers Nightclub.. so here we go!

Assessment Time: 11:45pm-2:45am
Address: 386 Chapel St, South Yarra, Melbourne
Website: http://www.chasersnightclub.com.au
Dress Code: Casual. I was wearing a fedora hat, blazer, jeans and leather shoes.
Cover charge / Entry Fee: Free before 11pm if on guestlist. $20 if on guestlist after 11pm. If none of the above, it is $25.
Guestlist: See website to submit a guestlist using their form. Open guestlists ok as well. The line outside is short.
Inside: You walk in and there is a bar to your immediate left in an enclosed VIP area on busy nights. On the right is the general bar. Further up is the main dance area. The DJ booth is on an elevated platform, and smack right in the middle is a massive square podium to hold a good 10 or so people, elevated to the same level as the DJ. Fancy green lights and disco lights as well as smoke machines everywhere. This place was built for trance. There was also a second balcony level but alas was closed for tonight.
Smoking Area: There is a little side room near the toilets, which looks like a male urinal from a third world country. You stand in line staring at a wall as you smoke your cigarette. Looked pretty funny. I suppose its better for the clubs to keep them inside, rather than going outside and losing their patrons.
Music: RNB. Typical RNB beats mixed well.
Crowd: Dominantly Asian, young.

Atmosphere: Not too many people, but not dead, just in the middle to keep the club going.

Ly and I are following girls outside The Bedroom nightclub, being the single men that we are.
Somehow with all the walking, we ended up outside Melbas.. we were still full of energy, so here we
go!
Melbas Nightclub
Assessment Time: 02:40am-04:30am
Website:
Address:
Door Policy / Dress Code: Casual OK
Cover Charge / Entry Fee: $10. Free if a guestlist was organised
Guestlist:
Inside: Two levels. Ground has lengthy bar in the middle. Stools / tables everywhere. an outdooe
seating area. Out the back is a dancefloor. Upstairs is more cosy. VIP area at back for private
functions?, 3 large podiums at the front dance area. 2 Poles to dance with. I can’t think of any
place in Sydney that has poles! (The retro might have some but I can’t recall). Long bar on the side
wall
Bar: Short to no lines, thanks to the huge bar. Pricing unknown as we scored free drinks all night.
Music: Downstairs is Retro / Classic music, while upstairs is primarily house but the occasional
rnb/pop mashup as well.
Crowd: Dominantly White Aussie. I think me and Ly were the only asians here. No problem, everone was
friendly here. People of all ages were about. It does remind me of The Retro Bristol Arms back in
Sydney, but in a cooler manner here.
Video Tour:
Right after we got inside
Timeline:
Bypassing the Entry Fee:
Girl: “$10”.
That was enough for me and Ly to not enter Melbas. It was almost 3am already.
We walked out and bumped into a man:
Man: “Hey, do you want free entry into Melbas?”
Us: “sure!”
Man: “Here, put these on”
He gave us a MELBAS wristband each, and an extra two just because he didn’t need them. Surely there
was a catch…
Man: “There’s no catch. Go upstairs and these wristbands will give you access to the bar tab all
night”
SOMETHING IS WRONG, but how could we refuse so many free things?
Walk up to the same girl, but this time we showed her our new wristbands
Girl: “Oh that’s strange…
Me: (gulps)
Girl: “… you haven’t got stamps! Let me stamp you”. Wow.
So we got stamped in for free!
Trying to get free drinks
We had our new wristbands, which gave us the power. So we marched upstairs to the bar and ordered
some drinks.
Girl: “That’ll be $20”
So we showed her our wristbands
Girl: “Ill have to check with the manager”
She walked to the manager. He looked at us, and we madly shook our wristbands. We’re just tourists!!
Girl: “Manager says ok”
Yes! We had access to the bar tab!! So we plied ourselves with free drinks all night, thanks to a
stranger on the street.
The VERY FIRST video of me dancing!
Dear Reader – you are about to witness the very first video of me dancing at a club. After 2 years
of blogging, I suppose it is about time a video was made. Watch as I pick up two girls through the
sheer power of DANCE:

Ok, ok…  so that was pretty embarassing. Though, dancing with me is an HONOUR, why don’t girls
understand this?
