Just dropping on by to have a dance with some friends.

[I was originally not planning to write a review and so no photos/videos were taken as I was pretty tipsy. I have no idea how I managed to get in. Then I just literally decided just now to write a review up at the end of the night, for record keeping sake… so it’s just a quickie]

Quickie: Taboo @ Civic Hotel (Level 1 Rooftop), Sydney
Assessment Time: ~1:30 – 4:00AM
Opening Hours: Unknown – 4:00AM
Lockout: Unknown
Address: Level 1, 388 Pitt Street (Corner Goulburn Street), Sydney.
Venue Website: http://www.civichotel.com.au
Promoter Event Page: https://www.facebook.com/TabooSaturdays
Occurrence: Every Saturday night.
Outside Line: There was a line of about 12 guys and 1 girl upon entry. Keep in mind that this line is combined for both the Taboo event upstairs and “The Clinic” separate event happening downstairs. Took about 5 minutes before we got in.
Dress Code / Door Policy: Pretty okay door policay. I had my mini afro-wig on. Most people wore smart casual. Girls wore dresses and looked their best here. hats are also allowed here. Saw some gentlemen with hats.
Entry Fee / Cover Charge: $25 is the full cover charge. Apparently guestlists were still valid at this time, but I wasn’t acknowledged as on being the guestlist. I be sad.
Guestlist: taboo.saturdays@gmail.com
Inside: Just the upper level of Civic Hotel is used on a regular night.
Cloak Room: None.
Bar Prices / Line: Didn’t drink tonight, I already had pre-Christmas party drinks. Drinking four nights in a row isn’t good for me at all.
Bathroom Facilities: Not utilised.
Eviction Count: None spotted.
DJs: Unknown
Music Style: Mostly RnB, Top 40.
Crowd: Pretty much all Asian here, with less than a handful of Caucasians here. Ages ranged from 18 year olds to 30+ year olds I met. You can’t tell what is what anymore when you look at the Asian genes of youth.

The suggestion was Brooklyn Hotel for Shanghai Nights. Half of us were like, nah, and the other half were like yeah. We were standing right outside World Square Pub debating this. Why? So we went inside World Square Pub for the Flow Fridays event.. here we go!

Flow Fridays @ World Square Pub
Assessment Time: 12:00AM – 12:15AM (lining up), 02:00AM – 03:00AM (what this particular review is based on)
Opening Hours: Unknown (probably 10:00PM) – 03:00AM
Lockout: No lockout
Address: Upper level of World Square pub, 680 George St Sydney (Old Equilibrium Hotel)
Occurence: Every Friday
Dress Code / Door Policy: Smart Casual. Guys are usually dressed with collared shirts, though there are a small handful of tee-shirters. Girls are dessed in pretty dresses.
Entry Fee / Cover Charge: $20 non-guestlist. $15 on guestlist before 11PM .
Guestlist: Submit your guestlist via the website. Horrible, I didn’t get any confirmation after sending the email. They need to fix that.
Inside: Once you enter World Square Pub, there are a set of stairs going up – these take you to the actual Flow Event. I believe the DJ downstairs may be the one hired by the World Square Pub people. anyway, walk upstairs and you are presented to a room with a bar, a medium sized dancefloor with carpeted area around to hold 100 or so people. Lounges dot the walls.
Cloak Room: Easily missed, the cloak room can be found while turning left at the top of the stairs and into the tucked away corridor. Prices unknown.
Bar Prices: I didn’t drink tonight.
Music Style: RnB/Hip Hop. DJs mixed well tonight. Was only here for an hour so am not sure how it was earlier in the night, but there were no hitches. Typical modern RnB tunes being played.
Crowd: Dominantly Asian, possibly entirely Asian. A mix of local Asians and International Asian Students / Fobs on holiday here.
Entertainment: No extra entertainment.
Atmosphere: It’s dark when you get up here. People love that. When we arrived at 2:00AM, it was pretty packed, but it wasn’t sardine – you had about 50cm of room around you to sway your arms – but you couldn’t go nutbag krumping safely. It was enough to allow people to walk through the crowd without interrupting your circle or your grinding session.

I was at a friends farwell earlier in the night and it finished around 1:00AM at Hotel CBD (there was a DJ here and a small dancefloor, but not enough to warrant a write up), so I didn’t really have much time to go clubbing. So came the idea to try to sneak into Ivy and Establishment! After miserably failing and being stopped by security, we dropped by the closest place nearby that was free and would let us in – Jackson’s on George.

Atmosphere

Nothing much has changed except there were heaps of people on the dancefloor! Amazing. The epileptic strobe lighting was still here, giving patrons small headaches, the music was still loud as well. It was pretty dark in here as well. see the video:

Free grind!!
I stood there on the top podium doing a little dance, and suddenly I feel a girls breasts grind behind me. She’s pretty aggressive, and that can only mean one thing – a drunk girl!! Woohoo!! I turn around and with excitement face my suitor, who turned out to be drunk alright – but one knows when a short fat chick is grinding you.

Soon after we left to go home.

DCMs @ Havana

A birthday for a friend. She has chosen Havana, so here we go!

Assessment Time: 22:45- 1:30am
Website: http://www.havanaclub.com.au
Address: 169 Oxford St, Darlinghurst, Sydney
Dress Code: Casual OK. Hats OK.
Entry Fee / Cover Charge: $25. $20 on guestlist (?)
Guestlist: see website. No problems getting in
Inside: One central dance floor, three bars. Private room in the corner, and lounges everywhere.
Cloak Room: Yes
Music: ‘Scouse’ House and Trance. It was actually pretty good tonight, as the DJ has a big group of songs to choose from. Of course, he chose some of the popular house songs as well as mixing it up with a bit of progressive trance. It was pretty good i would say.
Crowd: Dominantly Euro, some Aussies.
Entertainment: Dancers on the podiums. No MC’s tonight, but dancing chicks are good enough for me.
Atmosphere: Good vibe. Not as packed as the Chocolate City RNB nights, but still busy nonetheless. A good vibe in general.
Video: 360 View from the dancefloor
