Sunday @ Mars Lounge (Queens Birthday Long Wekeend) 7th June 2009

A friends birthday.

Mars Lounge
Address: 16 Wentworth Avenue, Sydney
Website: http://www.marslounge.com.au
Inside: As you walk in, you are presented with a medium-large sized room. On the right is the DJ / dance area. Around the walls are lounges, and booths. In the back-middle is a bar encompassing about half the floor area. Closer to you is what resembles a long table, the length of the floor – its a dance table. To your left is a VIP area lounge. , following the ‘Mars’ theme? It’s got a classy feel to it. However patronage seemed a bit low. Most of the people here were for the party and not for a regular Sunday night out. Well, it was Sunday, and it was raining outside. Not many were out tonight in the city.
Crowd: European, but because my friend is Asian, there were loads of asians as well for the birthday. As the birthday boy put it “Im so glad I Asianfied this place!”. Crowd was young as well.
Music: Fusion of rnb and house
Entry Fee/Cover Charge: I was on the guestlist, so I got free entry. Normally – dunno.
Atmosphere: Ambient lighting and small venue made this place pretty cosy.

Quick Timeline

The dance table
Ok This huge black marble table thing was too tall to be a regular eating table. There were actually a set of stairs on one end. These guys were encouraging patrons to walk up the stairs and dance on this table. How dangerous! I suppose it worked out cause only the brave and able with a zest for dance would dare come up to dance. That definitely included me.

Here’s a video of Mars lounge from the entrance:

The birthday boy jumped up onto the railing above the table and held onto it, hoisting himself up periously. Security, ever so watching the table activity, quickly told him to get back down.

I was out of energy
I didn’t stay long, just more dancing, but I was honestly a little out of energy since We love sounds & Brooklyn Hotel the previous night. I wasn’t feeling it, even though the DJ had the rnb music 100% right – it was just one of those off nights for me.

Coda
Would like to check this place out again on a perhaps Saturday night or Friday to see how it is like then. It’s a nice little number.

Post clubbing Afterwards…

Star Bar – Lots of guys, place wasn’t packed but it was busy nonetheless.. but only on the floor.
Side Bar – Dead as. They locked people out at midnight.

Easter Sunday @ Space Nightclub

On April 11, 2009, in RnB, Space (Sydney), Trance, by J T

Leadup: Walking around finding a club
We had NO IDEA where to go. We went to Cargo – it was $20 to get in. Bungalow 8 – there was a SHE event. It looked pretty good from outside, but it wasn’t dancey enough for us. We were looking for a good place to get in, preferably without paying. We even went to Shark Hotel – there was no DJ tonight! We walked to St. James. The organiser was outside, redirecting everyone to Space. He admitted that there weren’t enough people so they moved them all to space. Space?? *Cringe!*! We went to Nevermind Nightclub. (By now we had walked around for about an hour) and I was keen to get in. Bouncer said it was $15 with about 50 people inside. There was even RNB music! Ok, we went upstairs towards the entry booth. Some girls were leaving, and we asked if it was good inside. They said “its not good, but its not bad either”. “So its shit then” we reply, “yeah, its shit”. The guy at the counter said it was $25 to get in. It was 10.30 pm and he wants to add extra!! $15  entry only applied between 9-10pm. Considering there were about 60 people inside, we left, and went to Space.

Easter Sunday @ Space Nightclub
Address: 127 Liverpool St, Sydney
Entry Free / Cover Charge: $20

300 people in the club! Bouncer’s honour..
The bouncer at Space told me “Theres 300 people inside the club. Are you sure you want to go in?”.
“I guess so” I say

“You guess so? Theres 300 people inside the club! It’s packed!!” Did he not us to go in?
I ask my friends “So, do you guys want to go in?”
“We walked for an hour, lets just go in”
Bouncer to my friends “are you sure? theres 300 people inside!!”
The bouncer even kindly pointed out that his hand counter had clicked 500 people entering. The exit bouncer had 200 clicks, which made for 300 people inside. He was messing with us the whole time! grr..

I really wonder why we even bothered arguing with the bouncer and his counter. We went inside and paid the $20…

Saturday night 8th June 2008 …

We were looking for an RNB club to go to. The only options we could think of were an event at Establishment, or St James Hotel. The Establishment event looked not so good from outside, but we couldn’t tell. The others probably wanted a more asian crowd, and St James was really the only option.

I asked someone how it was inside St James. “Crowded”, “Hot” were the common responses. I was pretty tired and wasn’t really feeling like going in, especially as it was 12:30am. A few minutes of deliberation, and we eventually just went in.
About Neverland @ St James Hotel
Music: RNB new and old school, House
Crowd: Asian
Dress Code: Casual
Cover Charge / Entry Fee: $25 After Midnight
Occurence: Once off
Atmosphere: Packed

Timeline
12:30am:
Paid the $25. I felt ripped off. Spotted Vladimir (not his real name, but I don’t really know it – I wonder what a typical Filo name would be) and said a quick Hi. I didn’t really spot anyone else that night.

Fans
Went to the upstairs RNB room, and it was jam packed. We found a little spot in front of the DJ booth near the fan – the only fan in the whole room. Disgusting.

The main RNB room.
The fan is in the far corner below the TV
