Bounce @ Slide bar - The podium

Bounce @ Slide bar - The podium

Walked by here last month and it looked alright – Asians and RnB blasting out from the doors. Promoters said it was a monthly event, so I decided to check it out next time it was on – finally tonight the night has arrived! I got on the guestlist and brang some friends – so here we go!

Bounce @ Slide Bar
Assessment Time: 10:30PM – 02:30AM
Opening Hours: 10:00PM – unknown (probably 4:00AM)
Lockout: We left at 2:30 and were advised of lockout. Safe to assume that lockout is at 02:00AM
Website:
Occurence: Once a month. Check facebook for details.
Address: 41 Oxford St, Sydney
Dress Code / Door Policy: Standard collared shirt for guys, though it is ok to wear shirts. Stated that no hats were allowed to be worn, but I did see people wearing hats tonight.
Entry Fee / Cover Charge: Free before 11pm if on guestlist. $10 before midnight. $20 Otherwise.
Guestlist: I found the facebook event and added myself to the Facebook guestlist.
Inside: This reminds me of a similar layout to The Bank at Kings Cross. Walk into an open floor to hold about two hundred people. The floor includes an elevated dance platform in which the tiles light up and change colours. Bar to the left. DJ in the far right corner. Overhanging the bar is a balcony for private functions and what not, to hold about 60 people.
Cloak Room: Cloak room available but was not utilised tonight.
Bar: Did not use the bar tonight.
DJs: DJ Slim, Edo, Bonniez
Music: RnB, Korean Pop.
Crowd: A rare night where everybody is Asian. Dominantly Korean. A mix of locals and international students.
Entertainment: Runway modelling show, and a dance off on the elevated podium area. MC Jayddup to keep things going.
Atmosphere: Initially on entering there wasn’t anyone dancing on the podium. Around midnight it picked up quick and stayed pretty busy the rest of the night. It got very packed at around 1-1:30AM. Dark atmosphere adds to the mood and the crowd was pertty into most of the songs. It was pretty good.

Star Bar 19/03/2010

Star Bar 19th March 2010

Friends of M have forced me to go to Star Bar, after leaving the dismal Shark Hotel. I have only 3 passes this year to visit Star Bar as part of my new years resolution, and after tonight, I will only have one left. So M and I go in for a dance.. here we go!

Fridays @ Star Bar
Assessment Time: 01:30 – 03:00pm
Opening Hours: Star Bar is open from the morning. DJ starts cranking the music about 10pm. Upstairs dancing area closes at 3am. Downstairs lounge closes at 6am.
Address: 600 George St
Dress Code / Door Policy: Casual ok. Door policy regarding groups of guys is tight early in the night, but generally after 1am, anyone is allowed in.
Entry Fee / Cover Charge: Free the entire night.
Guestlist: None needed due to the free entry. However if you happen to organise an event here, a guestlist can be sorted out to allow you through security during the tightened Door Policy period early in the night. Email is info@starbar.com.au
Inside: 3 levels for the entire bar, but the dancefloor is on the top level. The top level has a small pool area at the back with 2 tables. In the middle is a large seating area. Along the walls are more seats and tables. The dancefloor is next to here, holding upto 350 people. It’s large compared to the other dancefloors in Sydney. DJ on one end, and 2 bars to service everyone on this level.
Cloak Room: none
Bar: 2 Bars. Prices unknown.
Music: Pop, RnB, Hip Hop, commerical house, Top40
Crowd: This is where most of the asian backpackers can be found by default. The rest of the people here are also backpackers from europe and Africa. There are also a strong Indian presence. I always feel out of place here.
Entertainment: Free glowsticks thrown into the crowd later in the night.
Atmosphere: Dark, party atmosphere. Though it does get pretty humid in here. If you’re a girl, be prepared to be hit on by many a man.
Keep reading about my cut lip and M’s smackdown!

Fridays @ Bungalow 8: 8th January 2010

On January 8, 2010, in Bungalow 8, House, by J T

Was here for a friend’s farewell.. so here we go!

Fridays @ Bungalow 8
Assessment Time: 10.30pm-12.15am
Address: 3 Lime St Sydney
Dress Code / Door Policy: You must look sharp, nice dress shoes, pants and collared shirt are a minimum and should be enough to get in. No large groups of men. Avoid jeans and casual shoes such as chucks. I barely got in with black runners tonight, only because the rest of my outfit was pretty snazzy, I was alone in line and I was sober.
Entry Fee / Cover Charge: Free
Guestlist: None, so if you get ‘guestlisted’, you’re deemed not good enough for the club based on your appearance
Inside: One large bar, with small dance area and DJ inside. Outside courtyard area surrounds the perimeter of the bar. Pretty ‘spacy’ outside.
Cloak Room: None
Music: Mix of old school house and modern house. It’s not too hard, and pretty casual but good to dance to. Oh a very esoteric description there, but it was pretty generic safe music to play for a crowd like this.
Crowd: Older (and better behaved) crowd – people in their 20’s, 30s.  Mostly white.
Entertainment: No extra entertainment besides the DJ
Atmosphere: Strict dress code makes the place look good. Atmosphere was pretty much lets drink and dance, and enjoy the water views of Darling Harbour.
