Saturday night 8th June 2008 …

We were looking for an RNB club to go to. The only options we could think of were an event at Establishment, or St James Hotel. The Establishment event looked not so good from outside, but we couldn’t tell. The others probably wanted a more asian crowd, and St James was really the only option.

I asked someone how it was inside St James. “Crowded”, “Hot” were the common responses. I was pretty tired and wasn’t really feeling like going in, especially as it was 12:30am. A few minutes of deliberation, and we eventually just went in.

Timeline
12:30am:
Paid the $25. I felt ripped off. Spotted Vladimir (not his real name, but I don’t really know it – I wonder what a typical Filo name would be) and said a quick Hi. I didn’t really spot anyone else that night.

Fans
Went to the upstairs RNB room, and it was jam packed. We found a little spot in front of the DJ booth near the fan – the only fan in the whole room. Disgusting.

The main RNB room.
The fan is in the far corner below the TV

Tired, with nowhere to go
I was so tired. I couldn’t focus, I was yawning, I didn’t feel like dancing, and I just wanted to sit down and sleep. Having a some wine earlier in the night didn’t help either. The heat of everyone squished like sardines just made matters worse. We just stood around and danced like penguins at best

Mini dance-off
Someone had made a circle. I did a little shindig, but C took it out with her bouncing manoeuvres. There was some breakdancing from some of the guys there as well. I stood next to the fan, trying to cool down. I couldn’t move – the guy in front of me kept bumping into me, and the wall was behind me. It was awkward.

Breathing Room.. downstairs
Retired for a bit then went to the bottom floor where some older rnb kind of music was playing. There were 3 people at the time we first entered St James. Now there was nobody left. We danced and it was much better, as we all had room to move around. The music here was less loud so we could actually talk as well.

We had some fun with the chair and subjecting the seatee to strip-o-grams.

Coda
At about 2.30, I wasn’t even dancing, I was dragging my feet left and right. It was a horrible sight, trying to make the most of the $25 cover charge.

Hard to tell what to say about St James when it’s really packed. Don’t go if you’re tired?
