St James Hotel for Kim’s 18th … (I did visit St James in december last year but as of today haven’t had time to write up the post about it)

Music: Rnb in main room, House and Electro in the smaller room
Atmosphere: Crowded but the venue gives a classy feel.
Setup: 3 levels. Bottom level closed off. Middle level is entry and has a bar and DJ area to play some music (funk). Upstairs has the main rnb room, half dance floor half lounge/stools, while there is also a very small smoking area and a side room with house and electro.
Dress Code: I wore my rastafarian dreadlocked hat, my brown dirty looking shoes, nice jeans and a shirt. I was only questioned about the dreadlocks. The bouncers were “hoping” they were not real. I was allowed in after lifting the wig off.

Timeline
There were two lines. The guestlist line (discount) and the normal line. Both lines went in equally. We lined up early (10.30) so we only had to wait 15 minutes or so to get in. Of course, early entry meant the place was dead, and it was pretty much so. Nobody on the dance floor, and house room was closed until later in the evening. I was with an and Brojo, and they didnt want to dance with me on the empty floor… so I did a little jiggy.. then the DJ played some crappy song and I left to whinge with the guys.

House room
Went to the house room as soon as it opened. The actual dancefloor itself isnt that big – it could hold about 15 people .. the rest was loungey and plenty of people danced on the carpet there. Tunes being played were the normal commercial ones.
There were two guys dancing on the main floor, Baldie and Crazie, and they pretty much welcomed me right away as they saw me. We did lots of dancing. By now Wuz, Jon, Kim and Lara was with me and we danced a bit too. I went to hug Crazie, and his entire back was drenched in sweat. These two were dancing really like nutbags. Later on in the night I lent them the hat. They had always thought the dreadlocks were the real thing. Baldie said to me that he and Crazier were talking earlier – if Baldie puts on a wig tonight that his dreams would come true. So it did. He danced liked a maniac. Then he passed the hat to Crazie, then he went like mad. It seemed like whenever someone put on the hat, a magical thing would possess them to dance like loonies. Really though, the adoption of a new identifyallowed them to shed all traces of inhibition on the dancefloor.

Smoking area
Really small area here – 2×10 ? Lara needed her smoke .. there was even a line to get to the smoking area.

Rnb room
It got crowded very quickly. The two huge fans weren’t much help if you were in the middle of the dance floor. Despite the high ceiling, the place does get very warm and humid. Not a bad thing if you were a girl wearing a white t-shirt. Not many people asked about the hair.. they all thought it was real .. hmmm. I danced a bit with Amy and co, but went back to Wuz to basically hang with them (well.. Lara)

Most of the night was spent talking in the smoking room… not much to report here. We left pretty soon after.  This is a nice place if you’re a teenager who constantly visits Space or Bamboo.. there *are* better clubs out there.
